Tres Chic! hint hint!

From the outside you see a beautiful resort... in jet white and red bricks/roof.. You check the website and you see heaven; swimming pools, internet/wifi, restaurants, hair salons, room service, gym...etc..

Well... don't judge a book by its cover, cuz its hell!!

This is a well known resort in Kuwait. During the process of building a lot of people
bought chalets there, it was a private resort with an amazing service and beautiful sea-view.

Then management changed... and well, it changed again, and again.... AND AGAIN! I wouldn't be surprised if they change is again tomorrow! This amazing resort changed into a commercial project, that would only seek MONEY! BIG MONEY! Regardless of the original contracts signed by the owners of the chalets.

The beautiful sea view is blocked now by a ridiculous looking restaurant, instead of the small cafe with its friendly staff. People now would pay around 2KWD to get in! Yeah people from the outside! They come in with excess baggage! Noise and all... and they're too loud! They come in to use the facilities available (restaurant and pool... and gym too) invading the privacy of the chalets' owners.

The under-ground parking lot is a disaster now! Some spots are already used for storage! I will try and post some pictures if I can. Old furniture is all around the place with some parking spot taken for other purposes (such as storage and changing rooms). They dont care about the owners anymore.. The underground parking is for the owners, whereas the one on the top is for everyone's use! So their strategy is like "Screw the owners, we just want to make money". Its really bad, because they are able to do things hidden and under-cover... no one from the outsiders can see this mess! not even the State Municipality!

For example, there is a new complex being built next door.. and the underground garage saved a place for employees to come and change their clothes... so at some point it would be full with male-workers... and its not very comfortable for females to be around them! Specially in our culture!!!

Also, for the purpose of making money, they do so so SO MANY special offers for chalets rental. A lot of noisy, loud, careless, party-animals, and some of them also litter and make it a big waste.... they would just come and disturb the peace. And no matter how many times you talk to security guards or management, there is nothing that you can really do about it! Business is business!

They also take money for services... yeah services! whatever! They take so much money for providing "services"... services promised but never met THE standards!

Welcome to Hell! The Tre Chic Hell!

What doesnt Kill you makes you stronger! Right?

So.. is that statement true?
There are two arguments to this statement..

1. Agreeing on that it will make you stronger...
So more experiences throughout life may hurt you more and more... and when in the process of getting hurt, you are somehow less vulnerable every time it hits... It makes you more aware of life, and you can learn from your mistake and avoid'em next time around, but that doesnt mean that you will get hurt less... but it does make you stronger and ready to fight it faster. Been there, done this, done that! So really... lots of bad experiences in life does make you stronger.... IF it doesn't kill you first :-P

2. Disagreeing on that it will make you stronger...
Say that some people get into a car accident and then are left disabled for life! Not just car accidents, but also some diseases too... Take dementia for example. A person's mental state will deteriorate... translation = it is affecting the mental state but doesn't really kill you.. and even when trying to fight it... you are not getting any stronger!!

For the most part.. I think I agree... maybe when going down the hill you dont like the process, and you feel rather weaker than stronger... then when you beat it.. you become stronger... now think for a moment, what does it make you stronger for? For the next time it hits?

Air Raid Sirens - Kuwaiti Style!

I received an email at work from the PR dept. stating that there will be testing of the air raid sirens by the civil defense.

As usual... the wail of those sirens brings me into a huge discomfort. Its not like I am scared of the sound or anything... but its annoying!I mean Kuwait's been through a number of crises, and those tests well hmmm they are good, but would they ever be effective and used right in case of emergency or crisis??

We have been hearing them during the American-Iraqi war numerous times. They go on indicating that danger is approaching or already happened and then within few minutes another one goes on indicating that the coast is clear and the danger has passed!! Come on!!I mean a lot of air raid siren kept us on the edge during that time, until people here got so used to them that if they were shopping in mall or walking in the street.. They just go on normally when the sirens wail... and would not really run to near-by shelters!

I know that some people in the beginning would jump and freak each time the sirens go on... they'd run to the shelter with their gas masks and protection gears! And sometimes don't even get to the shelters because the danger siren is followed shortly by an "all-clear" siren!!And when real danger occurs, you don't get the warning! Actually we never get an "in-advance" or "approaching danger" sirens.. Usually they're like the danger occurred already... people! Your on your own.. You're screwed!! LOL... even better NO SIREN at all when REAL DANGER had occurred!!

I still remember the CNN reporters joking about it at the time, once there was this reporter talking about the air raid siren system in Kuwait when a siren went on while he was on air and he was like: "see, its supposed to indicate danger.. but no serious danger had actually occur" and he just didn't move or run to a shelter.. and also when a missile did really hit Soug Sharg, a popular shopping mall in Kuwait, late at night! No sirens went on, but I remember I was watching a movie at home with my sister and brother in-law.. When a loud crashing/explosion- sound accompanied by the house windows shaking and rocking, which terrified the hell outta me! I was like WHAT WAS THAT!

We kept switching channels to find out more about it... but No! No! No!No air raid sirens no nothing just a crashing loud explosion noise! So to conclude it all... the actual air raids in Kuwait tend to be very brief and useless in actual crisis and annoying/disturbing when they're tested!

Viva Koweit! (I don't know why I said that in French... but what the hey! its my blog and I will cry if I want to :-p

Signs

I received this earlier from one of my college professors, a friend now if I may say, by email. Hilarious!Enjoy ;-)

-Ansam

******************

I´m Stupid

Stupid people should have to wear signs that just say,"I'm Stupid". That way you wouldn't rely on them, would you? You wouldn't ask them anything. It would belike, "Excuse me...oops, never mind. I didn't see your sign."

It's like before my wife and I moved. Our house wasfull of boxes and there was a U-Haul truck in our driveway. My friend comes over and says "Hey, youmoving?"

"Nope. We just pack our stuff up once or twice a week to see how many boxes it takes. Here's your sign."

A couple of months ago I went fishing with a buddy of mine, we pulled his boat into the dock, I lifted up this big 'ol stringer of bass and this idiot on the dock goes, "Hey, y'all catch all them fish?" "No - We talked 'em into giving up. Here's your sign."

I was watching one of those animal shows on the Discovery Channel. There was a guy inventing a shark bite suit. And there's only one way to test it."Alright Jimmy, you got that shark suit on, it looks good... They want you to jump into this pool of sharks, and you tell us if it hurts when they bite you." "Well, all right, but hold my sign. I don't wanna lose it!"

Last time I had a flat tire, I pulled my truck into one of those side-of-the-road gas stations. The attendant walks out, looks at my truck, looks at me, and I SWEAR he said, "Tire go flat?" I couldn't resist. said, "Nope. I was driving around and those other three just swelled right up on me! Here's yoursign."

We were trying to sell our car about a year ago. A guy came over to the house and drove the car around for about 45 minutes. We get back to the house, he gets out of the car, reaches down and grabs the exhaust pipe, then says, "Darn that's hot!" See? If he'd been wearing his sign, I could have stopped him.

I learned to drive an 18 wheeler in my days of adventure. Wouldn't ya know I misjudged the height of a bridge. The truck got stuck and I couldn't get it out no matter how I tried. I radioed in for help and eventually a local cop shows up to take the report. He went through his basic questioning..ok..no problem. I thought sure he was clear of needing a sign...until he asked "So.. is your truck stuck?" I couldn't help myself! I looked at him, looked back at the rig and then back to him and said "no I'm delivering' a bridge...here's your sign."

Makeover

Summer is just around the corner.. so give yourself a makeover from head to toe :-)

First learn to love your skin and body... love it and take care of it. If you don't have skin routine START ONE NOW! Just go out and spend some good money on good brand for skincare product and start a routine of having to take care of your skin on daily basis.

Ladies! You usually don't mind spending lots of money on shoes, bags, and clothes... so why not on YOUR SKIN!!??! Wear facial masks and apply lotion when needed and after every wash.... this is very important!

Also buy yourself a sun block... Remember, its summer time!

Also, love yourself.. and love to be healthy! Be at a weight you are comfortable with. Join a gym and work it out... if you cannot afford it then do at least 20 sit-ups in the morning and at night. Go running.. this is totally free! Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and sleep at least 8 hours at night :-) Add fruit and vegetables to your daily diet.

After this step, go shop for new summer clothes... OR put things you already have together in new ways.. . mix-and-match.

When this is done, look at your hair and think of what you want to do with it? Straighten it one day, and curl it the other.. have it in a ponytail sometimes... do that and keep on changing the look.... basically start experimenting what you can do with your hair heehee.
Take good care of your nails.. its summer time! You are swimming a lot, the weather is not helping, and the dryness is doing a number on you...

Put on makeup lightly in the day and a bit more at night. Let your face breath.. sometimes you go minimal and all you need is lip-gloss, eye shadow, and mascara..

Spend some money on having a good massage too... its so relaxing!

Remember, when you are healthy on the inside, you will glow on the outside! So stand up straight, tuck in your tummy, and don't forget to wear your white bright smile all day long :-D

Kuwait

Dr. Alrabaa taught me English Literature and Anthropology in college. He is awesome, I loved his way of teaching and challenging students. I got A and A- respectively in his classes... but I don't agree with so many points given out in this article! As a matter of fact I think it's a bit of everything; anger, experience, sterotype, and truth!!!

I do go out alone sometimes to a quite place to read a book!

I love our maid, cook, and driver.. they are awesome people and are here to earn a living!! I sometimes go and fix my own meal and tidy up my bed in the morning!

I do work full time, 7:30am-3:30pm without slacking!

I hate to see people throw litter out of their car, and to your surprise many of them are NOT Kuwaitis!!

I do LOVE Kuwait and I am a proud Kuwaiti too :-)

But this is freedom of speech I guess!

Daily Column
Thinking like a Kuwaiti
Published Date: February 21, 2007
By Dr Sami Alrabaa

Mohammed Al-Saleh writes in his column in Al-Qabas, Feb 19 the following, implying/referring to Kuwaitis in general:

Work is something sacred. Do not touch it.
Postpone your work until the day after tomorrow if you can't postpone it until tomorrow.
Do as little as you can and make the others do the job for you.
If you feel like working, take some rest until that wish evaporates.
Work is healthy. Therefore leave it to the ill.
I would add, also implying/referring to Kuwaitis in general:

If you have Wasta, (if you are well connected), why bother with the law.
If you have Wasta, why bother to learn and exert yourself. You will get the job you want and the others (expats) will eventually do the job for you.
As a Kuwaiti skip work. Because you are a Kuwaiti you will never be fired.
Wear an Islamist mask and behind it do whatever you want. As an Islamist you must be pious.
Pretend you are a devout Muslim. Go to perform noon prayers. From there go home. If people ask where you are, we will say you are praying.
Make a list of excuses from "work". One day, your wife is ill, the other, it is your son Mohammed, the other Ali, etc.
If you are a high profile official, do what Islamists tell you. They would love you and leave you to do what you want.
Make debts, borrow a lot of money and buy whatever you want. One day, these debts will be wiped out.
Carry on asking what Kuwait can do for you, but never what you can do for Kuwait. Do not forget to sing: I love Kuwait.
Throw your litter out of your car. Litter all over. Public places are no-man's land. Why do we have Bangladeshis? They would be jobless without your litter.
Leave all your bulbs and A/C on all the time, waste as much water as you can. Only the dumb pay their electricity and water bills.
Do not read. Do not inform yourself. The more you know, the more depressed you get. The more you learn about other societies, the more you are convinced, you live in a mad house.
Wrong are always the others. Although you are as corrupt as the others, as lazy as the others, blame it on the others. You are perfect, but not the others.
Committees made out of Kuwaitis spawn only other committees. They are not built to propose solutions.
In public, condemn Western "decadence", but in private enjoy its products. Praise local traditions, no matter what anachronistic they are.
If you employ an expat, exploit him/her as much as you can. They should be thankful to you that they earn a couple of dinars. Back home they would die of hunger.
When international human rights organisations blast Kuwaitis for ill-treating expats, refer them to the humane labour laws in Kuwait.
Do not learn from expat colleagues. Punctuality and hard work do not pay off in Kuwait. Expats are there to do the job and not to learn from.
Never teach your kids "Do it yourself". Otherwise, they run the risk of learning independence, discipline, and creativity. It is cheaper to get all these things for KD 30. It is not worth it.
Have you ever seen a Kuwaiti reading a book in a public place like, parks, cafes, or libraries? What kind of books do Kuwaitis buy? Books about deciphering dreams and cooking.
If Kuwaiti women were free, really free and not shackled to the rules of tradition, not to say suppressed by men, they would expose men and prove that they are simply paper tigers. Men know this. Therefore they subordinate women to their will, arbitrarily.
Do you know why Kuwaiti men, for that matter most Arab men, walk at least two to three steps ahead of their wives? They want to shield them from the lusty eyes of male strangers.
Men-women relationships are abnormal in Kuwaiti society. This abnormality is justified by anachronistic norms and pseudo-Islamic rules. Roman women envied their Muslim counterparts for being allowed to fight and conduct business transactions. Nowadays, most Kuwaiti and Arab women need the blessing of their men for every movement they do. Now, expats are addressed:

If you are an expat, just do what makes your Kuwaiti employer happy. Never disagree with your boss or Kuwaiti colleagues, even if they do not have the slightest clue. On the contrary, keep flattering them. Honesty does not pay off in Kuwait. Keep your advice and frustration in yourself. Lock them up.
If you are an expat teacher, do not be demanding. The more students complain about you, the shorter your employment chances will be in Kuwait.
Students must have enough time to play video games and watch TV.
At roundabouts and queues give way to Kuwaitis, regardless of traffic rules.
Do not rush Kuwaitis at government departments. They hate speeding at work. In some areas, the speed limit is zero. Besides, the poor Kuwaiti employees, they stay up late at night fulfilling their social duties.
Do not expect a "thank you" from a Kuwaiti. You are doing your duties.
Kuwaitis are not racist. Assigning demeaning jobs to Bangladeshis and Indians is simply a kind of division of labour.
Generally, a Kuwaiti man does not bring his wife to your mixed social gatherings not because he is misogynist. It is because she does not want to. She prefers to stay at home and wait for her husband.
Some Kuwaitis believe that their maids are robots. Indeed, some maids show no feelings, never complain, and speak like robots: Yes, no, ok, etc. That is why some Kuwaitis make their maids work for 24 hours.

Little Treats

Hello everyone.. I am new to this blog.. I hope you like my first post :-)

-Ansam

Littel Treats
http://littletreats-q8.com/

I am a person who doesn't believe in sharing food!.... No body shares my popcorn at the movies or eat from my plate when in a restaurant.... Well, sometimes its a mood thing, I may see something that I like in your plate and change my mind and ask you if you would like to share! LOL!

A cupckae is the perfect size of a cake for one person, that you can hardly share! They are the perfect gift as they are the best alternative to the regular size cake specially when it comes to office parties, birthdays, outdoor picnics...etc, because you dont really need silverware nor plates...

I received an email one day about little treats cupcakes in Kuwait and decided to browse through it.. let me tell you this, the presentation, look, colors, flavors, and variety of cupcakes on the site made me hungry, and I have decided to try them out for myself..
I called the number listed on the website and a very nice young lady talked to me.. she gave me the option of choosing what kind of cupcakes I wanted to get for the babyshower... and listened carefully to everything I wanted... even better, she gave some suggestions too.. in a couple of days, just right in time before I went to my friend's house I got the cupcakes...

Simple as that;
1. browse the site
2. choose the cupcakes
3. pick up the phone and order
4. get a confirmation by SMS of the order and price
5. sit back and relax... and the cupcakes will come to your doorsteps

Everyone at the babyshower that night loved the cupcakes! It was a huge success and a nice trend! I loved it.. Loved how it looked, presented, and tasted! The whole enchilada!!
I decided then to order again for other occassions, such as presentations, birthdays, surprise gifts...etc! Every time I order... I "accidently" order more than I need, and end up indulging in eating more and more of it LOL.

Beauty IS Beauty

I appreciate beauty.
I love beautiful things.
I love beautiful people.
And I love looking at beautiful people.

My friends always say: "DRo intay kil ilnas 3indich 7ilwen" in other words "I have no taste"

I beg to differ, I think I have great taste in beauty, regardless of the fact that I see a little beauty in everyone. (But thats another story)

I was recently invited to a wedding where sitting in front of me was one of the most gorgeous girls I've seen. So pretty that I could easily imagine her on a magazine cover. So naturally I ask my sister who she was. To my surprise she answered me with "Flana IlFlaniya".

I was surprised because I had heard from my friends how 'ugly' and 'unstylish' this girl was and how in the world could she have gotten married looking like that. Ok, you guessed right, there is bad history between the girls.

But honestly speaking, I don't care if she stole my bf, my husband, my father, I don't care of she was a cradle robber or a home wrecker. When someone is beautiful I'm going to admit that she is beautiful regardless of what she has done in life, to me or to others.

As soon as I left I contacted my friend straight away and guess what her answer was?
"Allah y3afy flan (her husband) ily sana3ha"

I was enraged at that comment. I will not continue with what happened next.

Moral of the story?

Lighten up girls!

If someone is beautiful that doesn't make you any less beautiful or any less of a person.

Admit or acknowledge other peoples merits.

That in itself adds to your own merit.

The Female Boss

By: MissCosmoQ8

I've personally always preferred having a male boss than a female boss...I know..it's bad of me and it goes against the "sisterhood" but men were just always nicer to me as Bosses...especially if I said I wasn't feeling well and looked pale...they'd instantly hope that I won't mention that I have my period and just want me out of their office!

Women bosses on the other hand, had issues...they were always stuffy, not easy to deal with nor talk to..no matter what I did, I'd never get the compliment that I so deserved! In other words, ma 6a3teenee waih and basically I'd end up fearing them and be miserable!

Now that I've become a boss, I've tried my best not to let my female subordinates wish that they'd have a male boss...but this hasn't been easy! For example, the other day, one of my subordinates rushed into my office and began to explain:

"I can't believe what just happened," she said. "I was standing in the corridor and Tahany, who I'm actually friends with, was heading towards the fire exit so I said to her "Wain ray7a ya 7'ibla?!" Tahany turned to me and yelled "Low sama7tee, ma asma7lich etkalmeenee chithee ya kaleelat adab!""

Staring at all the papers on my desk, knowing fairly well that I don't have time for this, I said "Why are you telling me this? Can't you see that I'm swamped with work ya bint el 7alal and according to what I know, you have a lot of work to do too?"

apologizing she said "Well, just in case she comes to you to complain, I wanted you to hear my side of the story!"

I laughed and said "OK, now please go back to work!"

No doubt I needed to be patient with this girl, she was enthusiastic and a bit of a drama queen but one had to admit, her intentions were always good. I just knew that sooner or later this girl just needed to grow up a bit and therefore I needed to forgive her for her silliness! In no way did I think that dear old Tahany would come and complain to me about my subordinates behavior but sure enough she did.

She stood in my office and said "As her boss, I thought you should know about her bad behavior. She was rude to me and I cannot accept anyone talking to me that way!"

I don't know about you but I was personally more pissed off with Tahany than my ill mannered subordinate! I mean this Tahany chick just complained about her friend to the Boss which was a serious issue. She wanted vengeance and for what!

Feeling very angry at the lack of sisterhood in the atmosphere all I could think of was, if I was a male boss would these girls have dared to come up to him and tell him their silly stories?!!

incidentally, if your friend called you "ya 7'iblah" would you get so upset and tattle tale about her to her Boss?!" If so, what kind of friendship was that?!

Sad as it was I felt obliged that it was high time I changed my tactics and became the bad ass female Boss who basically ma ta36ee waih and was feared.

The worse part of my new tactics was finding a way not to laugh when they were being silly and even worse finding ways to make them miserable!

I'd personally much rather these girls grew up fast...Realized there was more to life than the petty little things they worry their heads with..i.e. stop the drama...then fall madly in love with their jobs and make a career out of it and most importantly...not turn me into the female boss monster that I so detested all my life!

The question is how does one inspire tafha girls to get a grip, get real, get a life and stop giving the sisterhoods a bad name??!!

And the survey says….!

submitted by Jewel

I was driving through the streets of one of North America’s largest cities, listening to Talk Radio. They were giving out the results of a survey conducted on the women of that city, after asking them what makes men attractive, the number one answer was (drums) ………..being a dad! When I heard that I thought: “that’s exactly what I would have answered!” Frankly I was glad that the majority agree with me, because the first thing that comes to mind when men stereotype what women want they’d say they want a loaded man. When in fact it’s the human aspect that most women want. But keep in mind that "Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad." ~Author Unknown (thanks nascity)

After that eye opener I started noticing dads with their kids (without a nanny or a mom!) everywhere; in Marina Mall, at the movies, in restaurants and on the street. I have no idea if this is a recent phenomenon, or it was there all along but I just noticed it. I started to wonder are they single dads (you know divorce rate increasing and all)? Are the kids with their dad because mom is having a ME time? What’s going on?!

I always thought that in the past men consider their kids as the responsibility of the mother to bring them up while they faithfully attend the local dewania, but somehow I’m wrong.

What would the survey say? What makes men attractive to you?

You know my answer.

NB. I know that the answer to this question is based on certain demographics, but lets just ignore that aspect since this is not a scientific survey per se.

A Treasure on Brown Papers

A Treasure on Brown Papers is a new field I'll be posting on Fridays; once or twice a month to encourage us to read more of our national writers as well as foreign ones.

Personally every book is a treasure, carries us through mysteries of the world into different alleys in different towns, some of them arise our souls, while others make us wonder what are we still doing on earth. After all, a book will always help us notice our paths on this ground and will always be our light in a dark, depressed and stressed night. Its a ray of happiness on almost white papers, that used to brown in the old days.

This weeks book is Awra written by Dalaa Al Moufti, i assume by now you all know her, she has a column in Al Qabas Newspaper. This book made me wonder and brought to my awareness the people i never thought of, the things i haven't experienced and then at the end it made me smile when i realized this world has too many eyes whom don't have the same vision.

I highly recommend this book, the stories are short, amusing and cosmopolitan and the language used; very attracting. Literally it is fun to read, light and smooth kind of reading.

You can find it in both Arabic and English versions in every book store.

Check out the interview about this book here

Since we were talking about wrinkles in the prior post, check out this story, its lovely. part one, part two.

Happy Friday everyone.

Tips and Tricks 1

Have you ever bought a facial cream and it didn't work for you? Damaged your skin? Showed no results? You didn't like the effect? And then you ended up having many unused expensive creams on your table?

I've noticed I did and this idea hit me, i tried it, the results were amazing, I have the most sensitive skin on earth, dermatologist think that i am "made of glass". Anything would affect my skin and gives me allergies, i ended up with a table filled with many different kinds of facial creams. One morning i decided to use the anti-wrinkle cream i bought ( was prohibited from using it) on my behind and arms, guess what? i got a beautiful, soft, glowing, fresh looking skin, A skin i have never ever had in my whole adult life. It was softer than a new born skin.

Well here is what to do, don't through them away, you have plenty of choices depending on the level the facial cream didn't work for you..

1- Unused anti-wrinkle cream: Use it for your thighs, butt, arms or hands, this will give your skin an amazing glow and extremely soft skin.
2- Thick facial creams: If you bought a cream the gave you pimples, just use it for your knees and elbows, thank me later.
3- Facial serum: you can always mix them with your body lotion.
4- Sun and whiting cream: Mix it with your hand cream or the cream you use on your arms and legs, You know living in the middle east won't do good to your skin.

by that you'll end up saving money and not throwing new products.

N.P. a longer version is available upon your request.

Update: Since the wrinkle subject started through your comments, Dr. Bo hamra, M. suggested that using anti-wrinkle cream before the age of 30 is unnecessary and will not prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

Also due to Dr.Will "if you are an alternative medicine believer" Believes nothing would postpone or prevent the look of older skin (i.e. wrinkles) else than your own happiness, high sprited personality and your optimism in life. No cream will protect you from wrinkles accept your own heart.

No one said it better than Frank Sinatra:
And if you should survive to 105
Look at all youll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

Vitamins?

Many many many MANY years ago we had a lesson at school about how food will be in the future and how it's going to be mostly tablets. Whenever I go to pharmacies Vitamins especially the ones prescribed for females catch my attention. I never tried any, not even the regular vitamins. I tried B-complex once that caused me ahem *constipation* and that was the first and last one I ever tried.

So do you use any? Regular vitamins? Anti acids (to prevent cancer)? Female ones? Do you consult a doctor before taking them?

I need feedback on this. The future has come, and I haven't made any use of it yet.
