Desperately Seeking Cosmo Advise

OK Ladies...this is my first post on Kuwaiti Cosmopolitan...this is so exciting...I'm finally in the "In" crowd!..:)...and I've been dyeing to ask this question...if Flamingoliya's picture is anything like what she looks like in "real" life...where did she get that awesome haircut from? It's too cool. So here's my question, where do you cool ladies get your hair done? I'm basically sick and tired of cutting my hair at Shadows, I need a professional haircut but there are more beauty salons in Kuwait than there are bakalas so I'm lost. What's the name of your favorite beauty salon in Kuwait and who do you recommend to give you a decent haircut?

If you are still going to Shadows PLEASE STOP. I am sorry, but they do not know how to cut or style hair, their styles are from sanat yadee! Go to Cutting Edge or Strands in Salmiya, across from Danah restaurant off of Iblajaat st. Trust me, these places are pretty good.

MsB, who used to frequent Shadows as a teen, and finally broke the vicious cycle a few years ago after tiring of the old ladies hair styles Shadows loves to give...

..And congrats on your first post here :)

Wellll, I don't know about long hair hair cuts, I cut my own hair. But if you're talking about a boy hair cut like flamigoliya's pic I can tell u my when-I-had-short-hair tip ;)

here's the thing, I never trusted women with my hair! especially that short! I used to go to men's salons, some have places for women and some would tell u to come when it's not crowded. But the point is, when one of those magharba in Moroco or one of the lebanese guys at Figaros had thier fingers in my hair, I would gape and feel like my head was a canvas and they were doing art with my hair! They are so talanted mashallah. Some the older (when it was allowed for men to cut women's hair in kuwiat) profesional guys make house calls, I hear they also work magic but I never tried any.

What kind of hair cut are u thinking of?

Welcome to Kuwaiti Cosmo,
I cut my hair in lebanon Simon Mendelek he's the greatest!
I think his niece Fadia is opening her own Salon here in kuwait. She's always here she workd for a week or two at this salon I'll get you their number.

DON'T TRUST ANY ONE WITH YOUR HAIR!!

I don't recommend going to Cutting Edge they're not that good except for "super short hair" or only trimming and hair coloring. Anita is cute but EVIL!

I know a Lebanese guy who works in Pace & Luce, he comes to Kuwait every now and then. His name is 7asan and he does killer highlights. I can also get his number.

msbaker...I've been dieing to get out of the shadows habit and can't wait...the thing is..I did try Strands..but Michele (the owner) is so moody..one time she cuts great the next makes you want to cry...

Flamingoliya...thanks habeebti..and I loved the three attempts but definately my favourite is the last attempt..too cute!

delicately realistic...I did try Solitaire before but haven't in a long time..last time I went I felt like they were all not in the mood...(I have this thing with hairdresses mood!..:)...Cutting Edge is the only one I haven't tried but I'm worried 'coz I have shoulder length hair and I feel like they're more into short hair

Peach..I agree..I was in Lebanon over the summer and got a nice hair cut by this guy Ellie...I was so happy with it..then I did the stupid thing and trimmed it at shadows and it ruined the style...maybe I should just fly out to Lebanon and go see him again!..What do you think?

Spont...thanks babe..it's good to be here..:)

pappilona...I agree..maybe that's what I should do...wait till Eid and fly to Lebanon...but aint that sad that we have to do that for a haircut!..Why can't they open up a Vogue or Vidal Sasoon or those other fancy places all over the world...!

A3sab...do you mean Strands or Nina the morrocan girl who speaks french?

delicately realistic...does he have to come over to my house? I'm pretty sure my Dad won't appreciate that or do we have to go to his place and that means taking a million and one girlfriend with me...I'm chicken you see..:)

ms milk..thanks! Tulay's salon in Sheikha centre...that sounds interesting..I've never been..of course I'd rather go to Lebanon..:)

Delicately Realistic said...

Yes dear he has to come over to your place, or anywhere that suits you. :) I wouldnt recommend you go to his place no way. No hair cut is worth all that!

i got a long hair and i just trim it a little from time to time , am planing to have a new look and am happy with all these comments , now i have no excuse to a2ajel ro7at el9alon . . i got many choices to go with : )

MissCosmoKuwait said...

eva..yeah..all those choices..too overwhelming...so when are you going...maybe I'll postpone mine and wait for you to tell me which one you chose and take it from there..

Peach..el mushkila Eid everybody comes over to our house and so I don't think leaving is an option now...but I'm considering the house calls...I'll let you know...as for the walks...I came so close to going then ended up at our mamsha...but I promise I'll let you know soon...I miss it!

kuwaitigirl...how are they in maish?..I've been a traditional girl with just henna..but I'm tempted to do an entire make over that would possibly include highlights or lowlights..or whatever...el muhim a change...what do you think?

ray..wow...I've never heard of it...but sounds interesting...where are they from (I know..I know...shako with this typical question but it's gotta be asked...what to do?!)

Samboose...so do you think she can do blonde highlights...ok...after years of having henna coloured hair...I do want the change..and I like the chick's hair in 3adeel el roo7 (the "ay shay" one) what do you think...Jennifer Lopez...Beyonce...feedback please..:)

a3sab & salted caramel...problem is I bump into her a lot and if I ended up hating my hair...I'm gonna hate her too and then atwahaq! you know what I mean??

delicately realistic...ok...I have a silly question..when he comes over to your house...doesn't anybody in the house mind?? (that way I can tell my Dad "well..delicately realistic does it so what's the problem!"..:)

ray said...

they have lebanese hair stylists + "magharba" :P

Heheh dear ana mit7ajba. So hes never done my hair before. But shamefully enough I know many mit7ajbat who use him. The one time I saw him we were at a friends house and I guess the girls family were ok with it. Lol you know he kept asking me to do my hair. He's like 3ady I do mit7ajbat all the time. 7ada mo 3ady!
and whats this I hear about the Scientific centres walk way, is it busy at night?
If you have henna in your hair I don't think it will be wise to have blonde highlights. Or so I hear. Your highlights will end up copper coloured. I'm a henna girl myself.

Flamingoliya said...

for hinna girls, you can highlight at J F Lazartique.

Flamingoliya..really?! Are they good? What colour do you recommend for a henna girl?

delicately realistic...too funny! I can't believe he wanted to do your hair...min sija?! Ok..I'm definately going this weekend to the Scientific centre to check it out...and I'll be looking for a mithajba who is delicately realistic..:)...oh..and I'm glad to know us henna girls are not a dying breed yet!

ray...magharba sounds good..any idea what the "in" colour is these days?

Flamingoliya said...

LOL Equalizer

Cosmic
I'm a henna girl too so i'm not up to date with colors. last one i heard of was brown. but last one i actually saw on TV was Shaima Ali LOL! 3 or 4 colors at the same time! blond, purple oo madri sheno. badda3at.

what I know about Lazartique is that they have non-chemical dyes suitable for henna. you can call and check them out.

I should start making business here. we're making free da3aya :P

Khalas I'm defintely going on Friday, but I will probably go after f6oor and I'll be on the look out for a misscosmo with henna coloured hair.
By the way I love henna coloured hair. But I prefer when a girl does higlights, she does them according to her skin tones, not whats in. But that guy I'm telling you about he gave my cousin olive green highlights. MashAllah turned out beautiful.

MissCosmoKuwait said...

delicately realistic...Friday it is! How exciting..the hunt is on!..:)I do agree that the highlights have to suit and I'm curious about the olive green highlights! Can you pass me his number? Maybe I'll start with highlights and then decide on the haircut..

kuwaitigirl...candice? she sounds new..I remember there used to be a Jane there..but I think she left...that's the problem..you get used to one person then they suddenly leave town! I hate that!

Flamingoliya...ee walla good di3aya...bass sij shawakteeni 3ala Lazartique...that's the one next to the old Fara7 sa7? Are they the appointment type or i can just walk in you think?

Delicately Realistic said...

Here you go dear: His name is Hasan and its 7085152. I'm sure he'll be here before 3id, he'll be stupid not to.

Flamingoliya said...

next to Fara7 and yes appointment type.

I've tried cutting edge a few times, i don't think they're anything special, but the one thing i loved about them, they're probably the only ones who didn't cut my hair shorter than I wanted it to be!

So if you're scared you'll lose the length.. give cutting edge a try! I heard Nina is very good... my cuz tried her out and her hair cut was adorable

and Na3eeman moqadaman ;)

Just grow your hair!
Long hair is making a come back and what more, it is very feminine..

MissCosmoKuwait said...

salted-caramel...I went to Jaques Dessange once a few years back and it wasn't a nice experience...I'm still trying to decide what to do..but I've got enough choices..maybe I'll walk in to all those places and just watch other customers get haircuts and finally decide!...Hopefully I'm make a decision before Eid!

babbler...that's the problem...my hair is long..but it's been long since forever...lately i trimmed it just below my shoulders and still feel it wasn't enough of a change...I do love my hair long but I need a change...maybe I should just dye it!

dishevled...Allah yen3am 3alaich..it looks like the top choices would be Nina or this Lebanese guy that delicately realistic suggestion for a hair cut..or Jaque Desange for colouring!

Familgoliya...cool...I might pass by them soon and see if they have suggestions for colours..

Cutting Edge. Their stylists are fantastic! Seriously, don't go anywhere else in Kuwait. It's at the Gulf Road turnoff to AUK and the number is 2571-8001.

cutting edge is full of twisted so called stylists, it's way out dated too!!

they dont have any ideas of their own. way past it.
